Scent
A scent installation in which the spring, summer, autumn and winter of Yamadera — seasons that could never be met at once — appear together in a single space.
Its motif is shikan: stilling the mind and seeing what is before you exactly as it is.
Beyond the windows stand abstracted landscapes of the four seasons. The scent of each season raises up the presence of a time of year that cannot be seen.
Step closer and the scent envelops you; step away and the landscape opens. As where you stand and how far away you are change, the balance of sight and smell shifts with them, and the same space shows a different face. It is a space for travelling the nature of Yamadera through the senses, as though moving between the seasons.

She treats scent as a medium of artistic expression and explores new possibilities for the sense of smell. Here she raises each of the four seasons of Yamadera as its own scent, drawing the unseen presence of nature into the space.

You can choose a date and time and buy your ticket from a phone or computer. No account is needed. Just enter the verification code sent to your email address. To enter, simply show the QR code we send when you buy. There is no need to stop at a counter on the day.

There is no limit on how long you may stay. Please take your time.

- Visitors of primary school age and younger must be accompanied by a guardian aged 18 or over.
- Pre-school children must be accompanied by a guardian at all times.
- Please do not run inside the museum.
- Please do not eat or drink inside the exhibition rooms.
- The exhibition includes darkness, flashing light, loud sound and moving images.

Can I cancel or change the date and time of my ticket?
You can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your entry time. For some sessions the deadline has already passed at the time of purchase. The deadline for your session is shown during the booking process. We do not accept changes of date or time. If you would like a different session, please cancel and book again (the same session will not be held for you).
