Founded in the year 860, Yamadera (Hoju-san Risshaku-ji) is one of Japan’s foremost destinations, where abundant nature, long history and living faith come together. It has drawn people here for centuries.

Yamadera Galleria is an art facility where the culture, spirituality and inherited thought of this place can be felt through contemporary art and technology.

Inside, imagery reflecting the many faces of Yamadera is joined by installations that work on the senses through sound, light and scent. Rather than understanding Yamadera as knowledge, you feel it through your own body, and notice yourself in this present moment.

Please enjoy a time you can find nowhere else: walking your own Yamadera, and returning to yourself.

Your vital data makes your own experience of the art.

Through vital data read from a smartwatch, this exhibition makes visible the “inner self” that normally cannot be seen. Your vital data shifts with your feelings and state of mind moment by moment. Answering it, the light and imagery of the space — and the face of each work — change in real time. The work is the same, yet the experience it gives is different for everyone. Changes within you that cannot be seen appear in the work through your vital data, and make an experience of art that is yours alone.
